Paige Peall, Marketing Assistant at Poole’s Lewis-Manning Hospice is going sky high with her younger sister, Shannon, to raise funds for the charity that provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.
Paige and Shannon, who are from Christchurch and will be celebrating their 21st and 18th birthdays on 18 and 6 July respectively, will be part of a group of nine local people taking part in the tandem skydive for the hospice at Salisbury Airfield on 11 July. Paige is currently in her third year at Bournemouth University studying Business Studies with Marketing (BA) and has been working at Lewis-Manning Hospice as an intern for over a year. She will return to university in October to complete her final year.
She is looking forward to her charity jump: “Skydiving is something which I have always found myself wanting to do, so to have the opportunity to take part in one whilst raising funds for an incredible charity at the same time, is just amazing. I feel very lucky and proud to have worked alongside the team at Lewis-Manning for the past year, and this is my way of being able to give something back to them,” she said.
Her sister Shannon, added, “I am petrified of heights, and not so keen on flying either so this is a perfect opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone and raise money for the hospice.”
Lewis-Manning Hospice is now in its 23rd year and provides free care and support for around 700 patients annually with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, including Parkinson’s and Motor Neurone Disease. It currently costs £1.2 million to run the hospice annually with approximately 80% of that coming from the support of the local community. This amount will increase to £2.8 million once the bedrooms are fully open for respite, rehabilitation and end of life care.
