Tony Beard and Dave Manston swept the board with their displays of daffodils at Wimborne Horticultural Society’s spring show at the Allendale Centre on 9 April, winning most of the cups and certificates between them.
Exhibitors produced a wonderful display of spring flowers, pot plants and floral art. All classes were well supported with exhibits up on last year. One special display – a new variety of narcissus – won best exhibit in class 60. It was created by a grower in Cornwall. Together with a certificate from the RHS and 25 bulbs, Anthony and Christine Oliver have had the narcissus named ‘Wit’s End’, the name of their house. This was a present from their daughter for their 75th birthdays which they shared last year.
In the handicraft section there was a class for knitted bonnets which will be donated to the Baby Unit at Poole Hospital. Pam Shrubb won the Finlay Shiner Shield for best exhibit in this section.
