Tots have honoured nurses at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals with thank you cards in celebration of International Nurses’ Day.
The class of three and four-year-olds from Tops Day Nursery in Bournemouth presented the cards to Director of Nursing Paula Shobbrook, Deputy Director of Nursing Ellen Bull and members of their nursing teams on Tuesday 12 May – International Nurses’ Day and the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
The handmade cards featured painted flowers and individual messages from each child, ranging from ‘thank you for fixing my ears’ and ‘thank you for being nice and kind to everyone and helping them every day’ to ‘thank you for making my sister’s legs better’.
Magda Zuber, Nursery Manager, said: “The children were so excited the nurses would be visiting today. Many of the children have parents who work at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, or have older brothers and sisters who have needed treatment there, so they understand how important our nurses are. They loved making the cards and really wanted to do something very special for the nurses to celebrate them on Nurses’ Day.”
Director of Nursing Paula Shobbrook was delighted to receive the cards on behalf of the nurses at the Trust. She said: “The cards are absolutely beautiful and the messages inside are really moving. We are honoured that the children have spent their time making something so special for our nurses, it means so much.”
The cards were placed on show in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital atrium on International Nurses’ Day before being taken around the wards for nurses to share and keep.
Cakes were also supplied for Trust nurses by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) East Dorset branch.
