More than 450 walkers have signed up to take part in Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Twilight Walk for Women tonight (Friday 5 June).
The Klaxons’ bass guitarist and singer, Jamie Reynolds, will officially start the event at 8pm, raising money for medical equipment for the new Jigsaw Building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH). The building is due to open this autumn and will include a state-of-the-art Women’s Health Unit and Cancer and Blood Disorders Unit that will benefit thousands of patients.
The 1km, 5km, or 10km walk is open to women, men and children and goes through the Lower Gardens and along Bournemouth seafront towards Boscombe. After registering, walkers are provided with their pink Twilight Walk for Women t-shirt which they wear for the event, turning the prom into a sea of pink and raising awareness of Bournemouth Hospital Charity.
Barry Wilson, Events Officer, said: “We have smashed our target for registrations this year and are hoping this will mean more money raised for medical equipment.
“The event grows bigger and bigger each year and we are delighted with the figures so far. At the moment the weather is looking good for Friday so we’re hoping that we’ll get lots more registrations right up until Jamie officially starts the walk.”

Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year to support the patient experience above and beyond what the NHS provides. Donations to the charity provide the funding for much needed equipment and resources.
