Officers investigating an incident in which a man was bitten by a dog in Poole have renewed their appeal for witnesses.
The incident took place sometime between 9am and 10am on Friday 15 January 2016 along Sandy Lane in the Upton area of the town.
The victim – a 70-year-old local man who lives locally – was walking along the road and had stopped to stroke a dog when it bit his ring finger.
He suffered serious injuries and had to have part of his finger amputated. He has now been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.
The dog has been described as grey and black in colour and a similar breed to a Yorkshire Terrier. Its owner is described as a white man, aged in his late 60s to early 70s, around five feet six inches tall and of stocky build.
Police Constable Roan Doyle, of Purbeck police, said: “Unfortunately due to the extent of injury caused by the dog, the victim has lost part of his finger. I am appealing to anyone who may have seen a dog or owner matching the description given in the Sandy Lane area of Upton to please contact me so I can locate its owner.
“The victim believes this incident was an accident but I still need to speak to the owner and see the dog.”
