New equipment that will help diagnose and treat cancer of the womb tops the fundraising wish list of Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Twilight Walk for Women. It takes place on 20 May at 8pm on Bournemouth seafront.
Twilight walkers walking the 1km, 5km or 10km routes along the prom will help fund equipment that will benefit women undergoing investigations into post-menopausal bleeding, which can be an early sign of cancer of the womb. The Trust already has the diagnosis equipment but not the facilities to deliver treatments for polyps and growths found in the diagnostic pathway when ladies attend for investigation.
Alex Taylor, Consultant Gynaecologist, said: “Currently, the majority of ladies who are found to have polyps are admitted as in-patients and have a general anaesthetic to have the growths or polyps removed. This means they aren’t allowed to eat anything before the procedure, are in hospital for most of the day and need time to recover from the effects of the general anaesthetic.
“The Myosure device will enable ladies to get back to their normal day-to-day lives much quicker by allowing a polyp to be removed safely, quickly, with minimal pain and without the need for a general anaesthetic. Polyps can also be removed when first found in some cases.”
Last year’s Twilight walkers raised over £22,000 while enjoying a stroll along the seafront and the charity is asking everyone who took part last year to support the event again and bring a friend with them.

Registration costs £15 per adult (16 and over), £7.50 for children aged 5-15, and under 5s go free. Fancy dress is optional.
