Mayor of Wimborne starts the dig
Wimborne’s Dementia Friendly Community group allotment project has been formally launched by the Mayor of Wimborne, Cllr Shane Bartlett, seen here lending a hand for the first ‘dig-over’ at a formal opening event held recently at the Kingston Lacy site.
People affected by dementia, together with local dignitaries, attended the launch which was organised by the Wimborne group. The aim of the project is to create a space where those with dementia can benefit from meaningful and therapeutic activity while enjoying fresh air, physical activity and socialising.
The annual cost of the project is likely to be in the region of £3000 and start-up funding has come from a number of sources including £1000 from the divisional budget of county councillor Robin Cook, plus other donations from The Digby Charity, Wimborne Minster, and Bluebird Care community grant.
Group chairman Sue Cook said, “I am delighted that we are now able to move the project forward and am grateful for all those who helped set it up, particularly the National Trust and the Kingston Lacy allotment team for all their input.”
