The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) has won an important marine industry award commending the sports venue’s continued commitment to environmentally aware practices.
Presented at the BB/Marine Trades Association Dinner to Mike Scott from leading lawyers, Charles Russell, a major sponsor of the Academy, the ‘Boating Business Environment Award’ marks the importance of the WPNSA’s sustainable event management work.
As well as hosting one of the world’s largest sporting events last summer – the Olympic Games, the WPNSA worked tirelessly to ensure they were the first UK sailing venue to meet the British Standards Institute for sustainable event management ‘BS 8901’.
The WPNSA identified the effects that the venue’s activities have on the environment, society and economy both within the Academy organisation and the wider economy. Measures were then implemented to ensure best practice is always followed in a sustainable context.
The Academy will continue with the environment as a top priority through continued work with The Green Blue to further develop green techniques in association with the Royal Yachting Association.
