Fiona is currently patron of the Breathlessness Clinic at Lewis-Manning and was married to entertainer Roy Castle until his death from lung cancer in 1994. She joins a line-up of local talent that so far includes Ali Sharpe, who has also been creatively involved in the project, and her Bourne Harmony choir, Soprano Jeanette Hancock, Rising Voices community choir, Laughing Yoga from Gill Taylor, U3A recorder group and dance and singing from Fusion and Centre Stage Performing Arts.
Inspired by the fresh sea air and featuring singing, dancing, poetry, bubbles, music and plenty of fun, ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ will celebrate breath, life, air, flow and movement, encapsulating the work of Lewis-Manning to breathe easy, live well and love life.
Lewis-Manning Hospice, a Poole charity that supports over 650 local people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, is encouraging people to write poems to coincide with the event. Paul Tucker, Marketing and Communications Officer said, “The poems can reflect a place, a person, a feeling or something entirely different but they need to be positive and celebratory interpretations of the theme.
“Lewis-Manning Hospice is a very special place and is dedicated to helping our patients live well through their illness and beyond. Because of its stunning location, overlooking Poole Harbour, it really benefits from the fresh sea air, so it seemed appropriate, particularly at the beginning of Lung Cancer Awareness month, to take this as a theme and explore and celebrate the joy of a breath of fresh air.”
The poems will be displayed and possibly read out at the hospice’s event to be held in Wimborne Minster on Friday 1 November, which marks the beginning of Lung Cancer Awareness month.
Tickets for ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ are £7.50 adult, £3 child under 12, £19 family (2 adults and up to 3 children) and it starts at 7pm. Further information about the event, plus the poetry competition can be found on the Events page at www.lewis-manning.co.uk
