Callum Watson on his new tricycle

A Christmas present worth waiting for

Callum Watson received a Christmas gift worth waiting for when he was presented with his first tricycle at Castle Gardens in Sherborne. Callum, 18, was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome at an early age, a genetic condition causing learning disabilities, and asked Father Christmas for the bike when he met him at Castle Gardens last December.

Amberwood House Open Day supports Local Young People

As part of National Care Home Day on Saturday Amberwood House Care Home in Ferndown hosted a commemoration of the ‘Battle of Waterloo,’ the proceeds of which will be donated to local charity, the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. A great afternoon was had by all with superb entertainment, tea and cakes and even a ‘Welly Throwing Competition.’

Volunteers recognised for long service

A total of 120 years of volunteering at Green Cottage RDA Group was celebrated on 9 July by the presentation of certificates of long service.
Jane Dowding was also honoured with an ‘Overand Above’ award from the SW Region of RDA for her outstanding work as a Riding for the Disabled volunteer.

High-flying Joan Dampney has raised over £2,000 for charity after a wing walk on a biplane – at the age of 85.
The death-defying stunt raised funds for Autism Wessex, a charity that the plucky grandmother has worked for over many years.
