Bournemouth Hospital Charity has received £4,000 from the Santander Foundation to fund a specialist child-sized trolley for the Emergency Department that will benefit thousands of children each year.
The donation from the Santander Foundation will enable the Emergency Department staff to safely assess, treat and monitor two children at the same time in the children’s area. Children were previously treated on adult trolleys with only one trolley being able to fit in the children’s room which has a TV, toys and books to help distract children and help to put them at ease.
Cheryl Chainey, paediatric sister at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, said: “We’ve wanted a children’s trolley for the department for a long time and are very excited and grateful to the Santander Foundation for funding this.
“If more than one child needed to be treated in the department, the team would have to care for the unwell or injured child in an adult area.
“Hospitals can be a very scary place for anyone, especially children, and being able to treat them in an area which has things to occupy and distract them is going to make a huge difference to both the child and the staff.”

The grant was provided by the Santander Foundation which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.
