Completion of Twynham Primary School for Dorset County Council was marked with a celebratory handover, hosted by Morgan Sindall, the national construction company that delivered the school.
Jon Daines, area director at Morgan Sindall, said, “We’re so pleased to have handed over Twynham Primary School to Dorset County Council and the Christchurch community. We hope all the staff and children will be delighted with their new home.
“We’ve enjoyed working closely with Dorset County Council and the school to deliver their new building, ensuring that it aligns perfectly with their vision and needs. The new Twynham Primary School has been designed as a centre of excellence for education which we hope will become a well-loved part of the community.”
The primary school will initially accommodate 150 pupils from reception through to year four and will eventually cater for 420 pupils from reception through to year six. It has 14 classrooms, a large hall, studio and administrative areas as well as a learning resource zone. Morgan Sindall has also furnished the school with a multi-use games area, a sports pitch and a wildlife area.
Councillor Margaret Phipps, local member for Commons division, said, “This is a great day for Christchurch. The additional places this school will provide should help alleviate some of the pressure on local families, offering sufficient school places for the area. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved, particularly Jon Chapple the head teacher and Chris Stafford, executive business manager, who have both done so much to accommodate displaced children over the past few years. I wish everyone the very best of luck in this fabulous new school.”
Councillor Daryl Turner, cabinet member at Dorset County Council for the Natural and Built Environment added, “Improving learning facilities for communities in Dorset is a priority for the county council so it is great to see this wonderful new school completed in good time for the beginning of the next school year. This is set to be an excellent educational facility that will serve Christchurch for many years to come.”
And Debbie Place, chair of trustees for Twynham Learning said they were looking forward to the youngsters of Twynham Primary School being able to occupy the new premise
