Trustee of Autism Wessex, Joan Dampney, is taking on an abseiling challenge to raise funds for the charity. Joan is a long term supporter of the charity and is taking this opportunity to do something she has always wanted to do whilst raising money.
Joan Dampney comments, “I’ve always wanted to abseil so I’m taking on an 85ft cliff in my 85th year. I have been involved with the charity since 1972 so when I saw this opportunity I couldn’t resist. I know I’ll be in safe hands so I’m not worried. The work the charity does is varied and far reaching so I hope to help generate vital funds for this work to continue.”
Children with autism become adults with autism. Autism is a lifelong and invisible condition. While there is no cure, Autism Wessex believe that with appropriate education, support or care and by making the world an easier place to understand, the impact of autism can be reduced and people with autism can be active citizens enjoying maximum independence and a good quality of life.

It is inspiring to see people challenge themselves personally whilst raising vital funds for Autism Wessex, which supports people who often endure daily challenges. Joan will be joining the Mayor of Dorchester, Councillor Stella Jones who has already signed up. We have the young and young at heart from Bournemouth, Christchurch, Dorchester and Weymouth but there are still spaces so please come and join us for this adrenaline fuelled day and make a real difference. We are encouraging people to sign up as soon as possible as this is proving a popular event.”
This is an amazing opportunity to abseil one of the wonders of Dorset, Blacknor South in Portland, and this challenge will leave you buzzing with adrenaline and that feel good factor only gained by giving something back.
Registration costs just £10 with a minimum sponsorship to raise £100 for Autism Wessex. The fundraising team would be delighted to help with event ideas to support individual fundraising activities, such as organised cake sales or a car wash.
