Carers thanked on Shared Lives Week – 15-19 June
A virtual tea party is to be held today (Thursday 18 June) for Dorset’s Shared Lives carers and the families they look after to mark Shared Lives Week.
Across the Dorset Council area, 52 Shared Lives carers open up their hearts, their lives and their homes to people with care and support needs. This can mean that the person becomes a regular daytime or overnight visitor to the Shared Lives carer’s household, or it means that the person moves in with the Shared Lives carer. Carers help with activities such as getting dressed, getting to doctor’s appointments, facilitating days out as well as building friendships and communities.
Cllr Laura Miller, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health, said, “Our Shared Lives Carers not only provide much needed support but also create a loving community which enables young people and adults with care and support needs to live a fulfilling and happy life.
“Lockdown restrictions have imposed challenges for us all, but I want to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of our Shared Lives Carers. During this challenging time they have continued to share their time, resources and homes to provide essential care.”
