Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show warns visitors about road closures
Visitors to the upcoming Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show are being alerted to last-minute emergency road closures taking place in the area.
The Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show, which takes place on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 August, at the Turnpike Showground in Motcombe is alerting visitors to be aware of urgent nearby road closures.
Dorset Council has advised the organisers of the annual agriculture show that last-minute emergency road closures will be taking place from 12 to 16 August.
According to Dorset Highways, the urgent repairs will take place on the Melbury Abbas/Spread Eagle Hill (C13) and this area will be closed for 24 hours a day over the four-day period.
Show organiser Cat Harris said: “We have received notification of this work with less than a week to go before our annual rural show. I am assured by Dorset Council that clear signage will be in place to divert traffic onto the A30 and keep it flowing as easily as possible.
“The timing is not ideal but out of our hands. According to Dorset Council, the closure is because of urgent highways works that cannot be postponed.”
She added: “Traffic in the area gets very busy with exhibitors and visitors to the show, so we would urge anyone coming to the show to be aware of these issues in advance of travelling and perhaps allow more time to get to and from the Showground.”
This year’s Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show is celebrating 30 years at the Turnpike Showground.
The show, organised by the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Society, will feature attractions including livestock parades, agricultural and countryside exhibits, equestrian events, vintage machinery and cars, steam engines, live bands, a funfair and more.
