A35 Christchurch Road to be resurfaced next week
There will be phased road closures along the A35 between Boscombe and Pokesdown to enable the resurfacing work to take place.
Motorists can expect delays from next Monday 28 February if they are planning to travel between Boscombe and Pokesdown.
BCP Council will be resurfacing the A3049 Ashley Road from the roundabout next to Boscombe’s bus station and the A35 Christchurch Road to the Seabourne Road junction, Pokesdown, as part of its Highway Maintenance Programme.
The work will require a series of phased road closures in effect 24 hours a day over a period of up to four weeks. Works will take place Monday through to Friday each week.
Cllr Mike Greene, portfolio holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: “This is a really important route and it’s our responsibility to ensure the road remains in a safe and good condition for the future. Once the resurfacing is complete, residents, businesses and visitors who frequently travel through the area will see some real benefits with an improved appearance, reduced road noise and better protection against potholes.
“I encourage you to continue to visit and support local businesses, plan your journeys in advance and allow extra time for travelling. Please also consider walking or cycling whenever possible and avoid peak travel times.’’
During the upcoming works programme, on street parking will be suspended so as not to obstruct the works. Footpaths will remain open and pedestrian access to businesses with be maintained.
A signed diversion route will be in place via A3049 Ashley Road, Littledown Avenue and Harewood Avenue. The junction with Seabourne Road will remain open throughout.
HGVs will be diverted via A3049 Ashley Road, Holdenhurst Road, A338 Wessex Way and A3060 Castle Lane East. Bus operators have also been informed and people are advised to check with them before travelling.
