The Mayor of Ferndown, Cllr Julie Robinson, joined with members of Absolutely WI Ferndown and other local WI groups in the Barrington Theatre recently to celebrate 100 years of the Women’s Institute.
During the first part of the evening, members were informed about the history of the Women’s Institute movement and what it has achieved over the past century. They listened to the beautiful voice of Catherine Smith (this year’s runner up in the Voice of Ferndown) who sang songs from My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music. This was followed by a finger buffet including two special cakes, made by a member, to celebrate the occasion as well as Absolutely’s 6th birthday.
To round off the evening, the ladies, accompanied by Catherine, sang popular songs written over the past century, whilst waving flags and popping party poppers. Absolutely WI now has 120 members.
