George makes a special promise
Borough of Poole council has again been recognised by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) as one of the south’s best places in which to run a small business.
The Poole council has been presented with an award for the Best All Round Small Business Friendly Project, in the ninth annual Local Authority Small Business Friendly Awards 2017.
The award was presented to the council for its support to micro and small businesses and for creating an environment in which they not only survived but thrived.
Last year the council was presented with an award for the Most Innovative Small Business Friendly Project for its support in the creation of the Dorset Engineering & Manufacturing Cluster.
Julian McLaughlin, head of growth and infrastructure, Borough of Poole, said, “Local micro and small businesses are an important part of our community and play an essential role in our economy. This award acknowledges the significant work undertaken by our Economic Development team to support entrepreneurs and SMEs in not only realising their dream to set-up a business, but to see their business go from strength to strength.”
Cllr Mohan Iyengar, cabinet portfolio holder for the local economy added, “Small businesses are critical to the vibrancy and overall health of Poole’s economy. The council has supported such businesses for many years and I’m glad this has been recognised through this award. We look forward to continuing working with our entrepreneurs and making the most of the opportunities available.”
Neil Eames, FSB development manager for Wessex, said, “We are delighted to yet again acknowledge Borough of Poole for their commitment to providing support for their local small business community. The council has shown a clear commitment to providing a range of initiatives that help small businesses realise their full potential and we are delighted to acknowledge their commitment.
“Our awards aim to publically recognise the important work undertaken by local authorities, in supporting the micro and small business community. It is very encouraging to see such great efforts from local councils and we hope that the awards provide a platform for councils to share their successes in promoting and championing local economic development.”
