Grooves on the Green has announced that talented singer songwriter Toby Thorne is a late addition to this year’s 15th anniversary line up replacing Sunstone Collective after their recent split.
Toby will be appearing as All About Tobe with the full festival quartet line up featuring drums, bass and female backing vocalist in addition to his own voice and gentle guitar styling that has previously seen him impress at Bestival and be invited back to appear at The Secret Garden for a second time this year.
“We can’t thank Toby enough for stepping into the breach at such short notice,” says Main Stage curator Conrad Barr. “It’s a shame Sunstone Collective decided to call it a day, but All About Tobe are a more than worthy replacement. I’m delighted to have them aboard the good ship Grooves and Toby is one of the most affable chaps I know so be sure to stop him and have a chat … that’s if he doesn’t stop you first!”
Grooves on the Green runs from noon until 7pm on 11 and 12 July at Ashley Cross Green with music on two stages, a local beer and food festival, kidzone and mini film festival. Now in its 15th year, £1 from every ticket sold is donated to Diverse Abilities Plus, which helps children and adults in Dorset who live with profound disability.
Saturday’s Main Stage is topped by Bournemouth-based funk groove machine The Baker Brothers with slinky jazz/d&b fusionists G13, Afro-Cubano-reggae mixers Afro Tallawah, jazz-soul-blues chanteuse Kaia, the laidback sunshine vibe of All About Tobe and local busking favourites Krista Green & the Bees also appearing.
Sunday’s headliner Mutant Vinyl is playing his only local show of the year at Grooves as he readies his Paul McCartney/Tricky-endorsed sound for the summer festivals. He’ll be appearing with indie pop classicists Duveaux, Southampton math-pop quartet Signals, Afrobeat indie pop merchants Not Made In China, long standing Bournemouth outfit Fearne and performance folkorists Wikkaman.
Having managed to upstage himself with a second appearance on BBC’s The Voice this year the irrepressible Si Genaro once again hosts The Calling Stage.
