Don’t panic! Allenbourn children have not been up before the beak, but rather finding books for the school library. At the end of last year the School Library Service moved from their previous base at Blandford Camp to occupy the former Wimborne Magistrates’ Court. The Year 6 book group, together with school librarian Rosalind Jensen, visited recently to choose books for the school. A happy hour was spent browsing the shelves and finding books on all kinds of different topics, from cake baking to teenage fiction and Formula One racing.
“It’s great having the service right on our doorstep,” says Mrs Jensen. “In the past it was quite a trip, and you had to go through security before you could get to the books. Now you just have to ring the doorbell.”
The School Library Service is open to all schools in Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth, including the independent sector. Visitors are welcome to call in and see the resources for themselves, though a quick preliminary phone call on 01258 451151 is advisable.
