At the heart of Conservative politics for over 20 years, Ann Widdecombe will be spending an evening at Parley Manor in support of the Ferndown Conservatives and will be attending a very special business dinner on 16 October.
Known for her feisty and witty appearances on TV shows such as, ‘Have I Got News For You,’ and for her unforgettable performance on BBC1’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, she is also a prolific writer and staunch supporter of the Conservatives.
During the evening of her visit, she will recount tales from her extraordinary life, which includes her childhood in Singapore, attendance at a convent school in Bath and her student days in Birmingham and Oxford.
She will also share with guests what it was like to be a woman in Parliament. When she started her political career in 1987, female MPs equated to only 6% of the total number of MPs in Parliament.
Ann spent 23 years working as an MP, during which time she was a minister in three departments and the Shadow Cabinet in the 1990s. She has worked with Baroness Margaret Thatcher, John Major, David Cameron, Michael Howard, Michael Portillo, and was in opposition against Tony Blair and Gordon Brown
Malcolm Barber of Ferndown Conservatives said: “It is fantastic that Ann Widdecombe will be with us here in Ferndown on 16 October. This is your chance to enjoy a special evening with Ann and Dorset business associates.” He added that diners will be able to find out what makes Ann tick, “She is known as a fearless, frank and engaging lady, so rest assured you are in for a real treat and an entertaining event which is not to be missed.”
Described by the Guardian as a, ‘national living treasure’ and by the Daily Mail as, ‘one of the most successful female Conservative politicians since Margaret Thatcher’, Ann Widdecombe has never been afraid to take a moral stand, however unfashionable the issue.
