Weymouth Fire Cracker event goes online
The annual Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Cracker event at Weymouth fire station has moved online for 2020.
The event, like so many others, has had to adapt around the pandemic. While the open day itself has had to be cancelled, an online event is being held on Saturday 12 December to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity and Julia’s House Hospice.
A series of videos will be posted on Weymouth fire station’s Facebook page – @DWFRSWeymouthFireStation between 11am and 12noon. These will show various scenarios that can happen over the festive period, together with rescue activities featuring Santa and fun for the little ones, in the shape of a glue and make safety story.
One of the organisers, crew manager Luke Howell, said, “While we would have loved to welcome local people to the fire station as we usually do, the current situation means it’s just not possible. However, we wanted to do something that would help people stay safe, and raise some money for two good causes, so all of the watches have contributed. We hope people enjoy the films and are able to make a small donation!”
Scenarios featured include rescue from height, a kitchen fire, an electrical fire, what happens when a Christmas tree catches alight, rescue from a well, and a road traffic collision.
The films have been compiled into a single video and this will be on Weymouth’s Facebook page on Sunday. It will be added to the DWFRS YouTube channel – @DWFireRescue.
