Officers investigating a suspicious heath fire in Canford Heath in Poole are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.
An area of heath and gorse land was damaged in the blaze, which happened just after midnight today, Friday 17 April 2015.
It is believed the fire on Canford Heath Road at its junction with Canford Way was started deliberately.
Dorset Police offered assistance to Dorset Fire & Rescue Service to ensure the public remained at a safe distance while the fire was tackled. The police helicopter also attended the incident to offer help to officers and firefighters on the ground.
The Canford Way roundabout was closed while Dorset Fire & Rescue Service tackled the blaze.
Deputy Neighbourhood Inspector Adrian Thompson, of Poole police, said: “This was a large fire that damaged a significant area of heathland and wildlife habitat.
“We believe the fire was started deliberately and I am appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.
“I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time to please contact us in strict confidence on 101.
“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”
No arrests have been made.
