Police in Poole are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a fatal road traffic collision this morning.
At 7.50am, Tuesday 22 October, officers were called to a road traffic collision on Gravel Hill close to the traffic light junction with Queen Anne Drive.
Three vehicles were involved – a green MAN articulated goods vehicle, driven by a 44-year-old Southampton man, a white Vauxhall Vivaro van, driven by a 41-year-old Poole man and a black Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by a 41-year-old Poole man.
Sadly, the motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries.
Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “Gravel Hill was closed for just under five hours while collision investigators, vehicle examiners and crime scene investigators worked out exactly what had happened and why it had happened.
“Specialist recovery equipment was then needed to recover the lorry.
“We do recognise and apologise for the congestion caused by the road closure but we only had one opportunity to collect the scene evidence that will tell us why a person has lost his life and it is essential that we do so.
“Any witnesses to the collision or who may have seen the vehicles involved immediately before the collision are asked to contact PC 2005 Jay Griffin of the Poole Traffic Unit.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 22:61. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
