An open-air, family musical version of the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days is being brought to Kingston Lacy for the first time this weekend.
Suffolk-based theatre company Boxtree Productions are bringing their own adaptation of the classic work to the National Trust house in Dorset.
Families are invited to join Phileas Fogg and his valet Passepartout in this musical adventure as they set out, on a bet, to travel around the world in 80 days.
James Franklin, co-founder of the theatre company says: “With action, puppetry, original songs and a little bit of romance, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
“We will take you on an exciting adventure around the world with Fogg and his friends at Kingston Lacy, which is such an elegant mansion set in beautiful gardens and extensive sweeping parkland.”
With his faithful valet Passepartout, Fogg travels by steamer, train, sledge and even an elephant across countries and continents as fast as they can. They fight Sioux Indians, battle storms and even rescue a Princess on their journey. However, they are followed by detective Fix, who believes that Fogg is a bank robber on the run from the law and is determined to catch him and collect the reward. Will Fogg and Passepartout make it back to London in time? Will detective Fix catch them? Has Passepartout left the gas on?
“This is a great opportunity to see this new production,” said Katherine Bundy, National Trust Marketing Communications Officer. “We are encouraging the audience to arrive an hour before the show to make the most of the beautiful surroundings of the parkland here at Kingston Lacy and to bring a blanket or low backed chair and a picnic and soak up the atmosphere of what promises to be a magical afternoon and evening of open-air theatre.”
