Detectives investigating an attempted robbery in West Moors have released two pictures of the suspect.
At 5.29am on Friday 14 March 2014 officers were called to the incident at the Tesco Express on Station Road.
A man with his face covered by a dark coloured hat entered the store as it was preparing to open. He threatened two members of staff, a man and a woman, with a pole and demanded money.
The male member of staff confronted the offender and was able to disarm him. The offender then ran out of the shop in the direction of Three Legged Cross.
The staff members were uninjured and nothing was stolen.
The offender has been described as white, about 50 years old, and approximately five feet eight inches tall. He is of medium to slim build. He has very short or no hair and was wearing dark clothing.
Detective Inspector Richard Dixey, of Eastern CID, said: “I am now able to release CCTV images of the suspect.
“It is possible that this incident is linked to the robbery at Ladbrokes in West Moors two weeks ago as the description of the offender is similar. However, at this early stage of the investigation we are keeping an open mind.
“I urge anyone who recognises the man pictured to contact me, in confidence, as soon as possible.
“I also would like to hear from anyone who saw this man entering or leaving the store at the time of the incident.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 14:43. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
