With the weather set fair and 18 teams raring to go, the Ferndown Pram Race on 21 June, (this Saturday), promises to be an exciting event and with 5 members to each team, that’s almost 100 people, including ‘babies’ jostling at the start line.
The teams in fancy dress will include mags4dorset’s own Press Gang who finished 10th out of 17 last year. This year, with a custom built pram, they intend to better the result, but there are new challenges along the way. Will the ‘baby’s hairdo’ pit stop cause unseen problems or the ‘refuelling’ of the pram? Teams also have to down a pint at each pub along the route.
The start is at the Old Thatch at 1pm and from there they make a mad dash to the Pure Drop, then the Nightjar with a final pint at the Barrington Centre before the finish at the White Heather. The pit stops are dotted along the course and roads will be closed to allow the runners through.
This really will be a spectacular event with a variety of weird and wonderful prams, so line the streets, cheer on the runners and bring your loose change to fill the charity buckets.
There will also be stalls and a market in the town as well as additional entertainment.
After the pram race Parc Ferme and presentations will be held in the Barrington Theatre along with a mini beer festival.
The pram race is organised by Ferndown Chamber of Commerce, Ferndown Town Council and other local organisations and is part of Ferndown Festival 2014. The finale is Fete on the Fields on Saturday 28 June. Read the programme online https://dorsetview.co.uk/ferndown-festival-programme-2014
