Pupils at Buckholme Towers School and Nursery in Lower Parkstone viewed a special one off performance of A Fair Trade and Rights Respecting Story to learn about the rights of children living in India.
Children from the independent school on Commercial Road visited the neighbouring Parkstone United Reformed Church to watch the show, quiz the actors, learn how to Bhangra dance and be educated about fair trade.
The show, performed by State of Play Arts, is based on a young girl living in Dhaka, Bangladesh who works in a factory making footballs. The play focuses on the UN convention on the Rights of Children (Unicef), with proceeds from the event going directly to factory people living in the town.
Iain Robertson, headmaster at Buckholme Towers School and Nursery, said: “The play provided a wonderful insight into Indian culture, including music and dance, as well as provoking thought and questions about issues surrounding child labour and fair trade. It was an excellent an enjoyable learning experience for the whole audience.”
