Kicking off the start of the Bournemouth Food & Drink Festival 2016, the Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce (BCTC) is hosting the traditional Baron of Beef event. This takes place on Thursday 16 June from 6.45pm at the Ocean View Hotel, East Cliff, Bournemouth and as part of the BCTC 100th-year celebrations, this year’s Baron of Beef event promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Pre-dating the chamber, the Bournemouth Tradesmen Baron of Beef Association was set up in 1885 to discuss public matters affecting the welfare of the town. They would host annual Baron of Beef dinners consisting of two sirloins left uncut at the backbone. This tradition has inspired a new generation to honour the growth of the Bournemouth business community, with the now annual Baron of Beef event.
Now in its fourth year, the modern Baron of Beef event will begin with a canapé and welcome drinks reception overlooking Bournemouth bay. This will be followed by the main Baron of Beef Ceremony featuring an exceptional roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding dinner with Eton mess dessert. Entertainment will be provided by local talent, including pianists Steven Lee and Matt Black, dance duo Carma Dance and guitarist Chris Payn. Capturing the spirit of the food festival and marking the centennial, there will be a 100th-year birthday cake to mark the special occasion.
Peter Matthews, president of BCTC, has commented on the event: “Our Baron of Beef event continues to grow year on year and this is a great way to start the Bournemouth Food & Drink Festival. This year we have the fantastic opportunity to celebrate our landmark anniversary and provide something extra special with this historic event.”
This year’s event is sponsored by Rawlins Davy Solicitors & Mediators and Carter Importing Ltd. With places limited, early booking is essential.
