Wild animals will find that Allenbourn Middle School is a good place to nest and roost from now on. Children and staff at the school have developed the wildlife garden by improving the pond and putting up boxes for bats, birds, hedgehogs and voles.
The boxes have been paid for by the Parents’ Association, and were recently installed with the help of Beatrice Dopita from the River Allen Bat Roost and Dorset Mammal Group. “We are working to make Wimborne a good place for bats, and are delighted to get some young people interested,” she said. “These wildlife habitats will be really valuable to the bats and other mammals in the town centre, and will help with our bat monitoring programme.”
