BCP residents set to benefit from shopping discounts
BCP Council is proposing the introduction of Residents Cards for summer next year, but it will need approval by Cabinet.
People living in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole could well have the opportunity next year to enjoy not only free swimming and parking, but discounted coffee and ice creams.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has put forward plans for the introduction of a Resident Card by summer 2026 – giving households more for their money across the three towns.
The proposals are designed to put residents first, while creating exciting new opportunities for local businesses.
If approved, communities will be able to access free swimming at BCP-managed leisure facilities and perks at local businesses – as well as an hour of free parking.
Cllr Millie Earl, leader of BCP Council, said: “The introduction of a Resident Card is an exciting step in revitalising our towns and high streets and will directly benefit people living in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole
“By putting residents first, we will be able to protect incomes at the same time as supporting local businesses. The introduction of free swimming ensures everyone has access to facilities that will boost their health and wellbeing, whilst a free hour of parking means our residents will be able to spend more time enjoying our fantastic high streets.
“Introducing a Resident Card means, together, we can help residents make the most of what our towns have to offer, support them through the ongoing cost of living challenges, and drive new customers to local businesses.”
The scheme, which will be discussed by BCP Council’s Cabinet on 1 October, represents a commitment to protecting household incomes whilst providing greater access to facilities that support the wellbeing of residents.
The introduction of a Residents Card would provide discounts at Council-run seaside kiosks, as well as local businesses, to provide direct savings for those that live in these communities; this is intended to promote active lifestyles and re-energise high streets by putting residents, and local businesses, first.
And whether residents are tech-savvy, or prefer something to keep in their wallet, the Resident Card has been designed to be accessible to all. The plans would see the introduction of digital and physical cards, plus a user-friendly website, with a launch anticipated for summer 2026.
Individual businesses will be able to tailor their offering with bespoke benefits and exclusive offers; and residents will be able to access a range of promotions across council services, including an hour of free parking with any purchased session after 9.30am, at select Council-owned car parks, and one free swim a month at BCP Leisure facilities.
The proposals will be considered by Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 22 September, and will then progress to Cabinet on 1 October.
