Beach barbecues available for festive swims
If you’re heading to the beach over the next few days you will be able to take advantage of barbecues in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
People brave enough to take part in a New Year’s Day swim at beaches in the BCP Council area will be able to enjoy a barbecue afterwards.
Following requests from local open water swimming groups and residents, electric beach barbecues have been turned on over the festive period.
Member of local swim group Just swim, Gaynor Nevitt, said: “It will be lovely to be able to have a warming bacon or halloumi butty after our winter swims, and it would be great to see the beach barbecues available all year round, as the beach is so popular with the local community. Be it taking walks, jogging, yoga and all sorts of exercise and leisure, these are a great asset for all.”
Deputy leader of the Council and portfolio holder for Development, Growth and Regeneration, Phil Broadhead said: “I’m so pleased we’ve been able to accommodate the request from our community groups and reopen the free electric barbecues for the festive period. They worked really successfully over the summer months and we are delighted to be able to bring them back for the New Year season.
“Whether you are going for a swim in the sea and want a hot meal after, or you are meeting up with your friends or family for a festive walk, our beach BBQs are free-to-use for residents and visitors alike.”
The barbecues are located in Bournemouth, Branksome, Boscombe and Fisherman’s Walk, and can be used to cook hot food in a safe, fun and sustainable way, between the hours of 10am and 10pm.
The fixed electric BBQs help to reduce the use of disposable alternatives that are often left as litter, impact the environment, or pose a risk when left under the surface of the sand.
