Beach polo comes to Sandbanks
Sandpolo, the world’s biggest beach polo event, will be taking place on Sandbanks beach on 12 and 13 July.
Professional players and their ponies will be heading to Sandbanks on 12 and 13 July for Sandpolo, the world’s biggest beach polo event.
The number one UK Ladies professional player, dubbed ‘the princess of polo’, Hazel Jackson will be thrilling spectators in the polo arena for team Whispering Angel.
The glamourous event, now in its 17th year, is an annual highlight in the Dorset calendar, and this year looks to be a sell-out weekend of fast-paced stadium polo, feasting, and extravagant parties. Year on year, the luxury event welcomes up to 8,000 spectators who flock to the beach to enjoy the polo, hospitality, parties and outstanding scenery of the Jurassic Coast.
Sandpolo is played in an enclosed arena with spectators up close. It has often been referred to as ‘Hockey on Horse Back’. It is a sport that demands exceptional physical and mental prowess. Players must possess excellent riding skills, as they navigate their horses at high speeds while manoeuvring the mallet to strike the ball accurately.
As the sun goes down, the energy continues into the evening with an after-party from 6pm to midnight on both nights. Friday is ‘Boogie on the Beach’ featuring Brit Award winner and soul sensation Lemar, whilst Saturday’s closing party promises to be a genre-defying and decade-hopping night of entertainment.
Johnny Wheeler, Sandpolo founder, said: “The support for Sandpolo over the years has been phenomenal. It is always such a privilege to bring this spectacular event to Sandbanks.
“Looking back at the photos and films from last year, after a long and rainy winter, makes me incredibly proud of the team and everyone that supports our event. Above all, our guests who continually turn up and support us.”
