Become a volunteer ambulance responder in Dorset
Applications are open for people to join South Western Ambulance Service as volunteer Community First Responders.
The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals from Dorset to make a difference in their local communities by becoming Community First Responders (CFRs).
CFRs are volunteers who are trained to attend medical emergencies in their local area, often ahead of an ambulance arriving on scene. They provide essential lifesaving care in those critical first few minutes, including CPR and defibrillation, often making a real difference to patient outcomes.
As a Community First Responder, volunteers will respond to 999 calls in their local community, provide immediate care, including basic life support, and work closely with the ambulance service.
SWASFT is seeking to recruit volunteers in Swanage, Cranborne, Beaminster, Lyme Regis, and Bridport.
Jane Whichello, head of volunteering and community services at SWASFT said: “Community First Responders are a vital part of the chain of survival. Their swift response and commitment to their communities help save lives every day.
“We’re looking for compassionate, reliable individuals who want to give back and support their neighbours in times of urgent need.”
No previous medical experience is necessary, as full training will be provided, along with uniform and volunteers will be able to claim back mileage expenses. SWASFT needs volunteers who can commit to helping others, have the ability to remain calm under pressure, and the willingness to respond to emergencies in their area.
Applications are now open until Wednesday 1 October. For more information and to apply, please visit the SWASFT website.
