A new flag is flying over Christchurch splashpark courtesy of a six-year-old student from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.
Bethany Westlake was the winner of a competition organised by Christchurch Borough Council to find a new flag to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the facility at Christchurch Quay.
Primary school pupils in Christchurch were asked to produce a design for a flag along the theme of ‘having fun at Christchurch Quay’. More than 100 entries were received with Bethany’s design chosen as the winner.
Becky Beaumont, Community & Recreation Officer at Christchurch Council, said: “Bethany’s design really stood out, firstly because it was bright and colourful and secondly because it really answered the design brief.”
Bethany’s design was made up into a flag and Bethany joined the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Frederick Neale, to raise it over the splashpark.
Bethany was presented with a goody bag of sporting prizes.
