Bikers bring joy to children at Dorset hospital
The DocBike charity organised bikers in a ride from Alderholt to Dorset County Hospital to distribute Christmas parcels.

Thanks to 50 bikers from across Dorset, children staying in Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital on Christmas Day received some special gifts.
The Dorset-based charity DocBike’s Santa Toy Run set off from The Churchill Arms in Alderholt at 11.30am on 22 December with bikers donning their best Christmas fancy dress outfits.
After completing the 35-mile ride out, bikers were greeted with a warm welcome by staff from Kingfisher Ward, who gladly accepted their generously donated gifts for patients to open on Christmas Day.
Kingfisher Ward is Dorset County Hospital’s ward for children and young people aged 0 to 17 years old.
Tanya Wynyard, DocBike volunteer and landlady at The Churchill Arms said: “I am overjoyed with the amount of support that we received for DocBike’s first-ever Santa Toy Run, especially as the weather wasn’t on our side first thing that morning.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who generously donated gifts, got involved, or helped to make the event possible. I would also like to extend our gratitude and to thank staff at Kingfisher Ward, for providing us with the opportunity to hold our brand-new ride out for the biker community to enjoy.”
Emma Davies, Kingfisher Ward manager, said: “On behalf of Kingfisher ward, thank you so much for your generous donations. This kindness and support makes a meaningful difference to the children receiving care in hospital. We truly appreciate your contributions, and we loved seeing the joy and excitement this brought to them.” The DocBike Charity receives no direct funding from the government and relies on the generosity of the public to continue their life-saving work, which puts highly trained trauma doctors or critical care paramedics on two wheels to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the UK’s roads due to motorcycle collisions.
