The victim of a murder investigation in Blandford has been named by her family as 44-year-old local woman Katrina O’Hara.
Police were called to Jock’s Barbers on East Street at around 6.10pm, last Thursday (7 January), and discovered a woman’s body with serious injuries. She sadly died at the scene.
A murder investigation was subsequently launched by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).
The body of Katrina O’Hara was officially identified on Saturday and named by her family.
A post mortem examination found that she had died from two stab wounds to her chest. Miss O’Hara’s family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.
A 49-year-old local man, who sustained an injury to his wrist during the incident, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being treated in hospital.
The incident happened just inside the barbers and the alleged offender and victim are known to each other.
Detective Inspector Richard Dixey, of Dorset Police’s MCIT, said: “I would like to thank the public, in particular the local residents in Blandford, for their assistance, support and co-operation during this ordeal.
“Many witnesses have come forward with information and we have been able to locate a potential weapon – a knife – near to the scene of the incident.
“Family liaison officers have updated Miss O’Hara’s family with these developments and our thoughts are with them at this tragic and most difficult time.
“I would like to ask, on behalf of the family, that their requested for undisturbed privacy and time to grieve is respected.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident and our appeal for witnesses and people with relevant information to come forward, still stands.”
