The Shaftesbury and Gillingham Home Watch Association is running a Blue Light Day giving the local community the opportunity to meet emergency service personnel including police and fire officers and receive advice on various security and safety matters. This year’s Blue Light Day will be on the 14 June at the start of National Neighbourhood and Home Watch Week.
North Dorset Neighbourhood Inspector, Shawn Whitley said, “I appreciate the support we receive from the Shaftesbury and Gillingham Home Watch Association and for the hard work the members put into organising the Blue Light Day, which gives our officers an excellent opportunity to meet with the local community and discuss the implementation of crime prevention tactics and measures.”
The association is run by a small committee, which with one or two exceptions, has been together for seven years. New members are needed.
Dorset Police Prevention Development Officer, Mrs Elaine Ryan said, “Shaftesbury and Gillingham Home Watch Association is an excellent example of how a community can support the police in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour and I hope that more volunteers come forward to help out with this very rewarding and important work.”
If you are interested in joining the association: the following roles are available: Newsletter Editor; Publicity Officer; Vice Chair; CCTV Technician (must be willing to update and install our equipment, as well as support members).
