Cllr Derek Borthwick and his wife Dorothy attended the event along with Mike Wilks, the Provincial Grand Master for the Freemasons, and his wife Kay. The £31,000 was raised by individual lodges and donated to 45 charities and good causes.
Each charity was able to address those present to explain what they do within the community.
The mayor said he was “overwhelmed” after hearing from the charity representatives.
Mike Wilks added, “While we provide the donations it is the charitable workers who are there on a day-by-day basis making a difference.
It is our privilege to be able to support charities as much as we can.”
“All the money is raised from our members and who consider it of great importance to donate regularly.”
After the cheques were presented guests enjoyed a buffet at the centre in Knole Road.
