Bournemouth company raises funds for hospice in memory of colleague
Friends and colleagues at 4Com took part in a ‘Moveathon’ to raise funds for Forest Holme Hospice in memory of Ben Standish.
Colleagues of Ben Standish, 44, who died in Forest Holme Hospice earlier this year, have raised £7,768.88 for the Poole-based hospice in his memory.
Staff at 4Com took on the unique challenge of a 24-hour ‘Moveathon’ which saw employees of the Bournemouth-based company staying active around the clock during a 24-hour period, with a dedicated overnight team ensuring someone was always exercising.
Participants rotated through a wide variety of activities, including, boxing, swimming, running, table tennis, football, beach walks, cycling, circuit training, and stints on static exercise machines.
Ben’s wife, Leanne, said: “Ben’s passion for life was infectious; he was inspirational with a huge smile and an even bigger heart. During his long cancer journey, he faced it with the same positivity and strength that defined every part of his life.”
The hospice cared for Ben during his illness, and Leanne paid tribute to the team. She said: “They not only offered Ben dignity, comfort and peace, but their compassion extended to me and all of Ben’s loved ones. Even during the darkest days, they were ready with a smile or banter about football results, and I will always be eternally grateful for the support we received.
“Ben’s 4Com family have been incredibly supportive throughout his journey. I want to thank everyone who organised and took part – charity events were so close to Ben’s heart, and he would be extremely proud. It’s incredibly moving to see his memory honoured in such a meaningful way. Thank you also to everyone who donated – this will make a difference to so many local people.”
