Bournemouth Festive Streets events reach their conclusion
Thousands turned out for the finale of the events which have been running around the town on Thursday evenings since 21 November.
Bournemouth’s finale of the new Festive Streets events, which took place on Thursday 19 December, delighted thousands of visitors.
Funded and organised by Bournemouth Town Centre BID in partnership with BCP Council and the Town Centre Improvement Fund, it popped up at locations around Bournemouth Town Centre every Thursday evening from 21 November.
The final festive extravaganza took place at The Triangle between 4pm and 7pm, with large numbers turning out to enjoy Father Christmas and his elf giving out goodies, a free eco arts and crafts session with Outside-In, an incredible animatronic Polar Bear, Ice Queen stilt walker and the ski lift selfie station, along with live music from Funky Little Choir, Bournemouth Concert Brass and Sing People Sing.
Over the weeks, Festive Streets has delivered a wide range of fun entertainments, from selfie stations to street performances with walkabout acts including an ice dragon, a neon juggler and showstopping fire act, as well as lively performances from bands and choirs.
Paul Kinvig, chief operating officer of The Bournemouth Town Centre BID, said: “We’ve been delighted with the success of the brand new and completely free ‘Festive Streets’ events this year. The reception has been brilliant – with local families turning out and shoppers and visitors getting involved, all of it adding to the magic and excitement of the season.
“The events have certainly boosted our local businesses, as well as bringing people together and spreading festive cheer, making the Christmas countdown in Bournemouth even more special this year.”
Suzy Wheeler, operations manager at Strawberry Fields RePresents and Absolute Music, who curated the Festive Streets project on behalf of the Bournemouth Town Centre BID, said: “The atmosphere during each event has been festive and fun for all visitors. It has been a pleasure to engage the local businesses and work with Bournemouth Town Centre BID to deliver free events for a variety of ages to enjoy. Seeing the streets of Bournemouth busy with happy children and happy grownups has been the perfect way to celebrate Christmas.”
Bournemouth town centre visitors can also look out for Christmas Projections transforming iconic buildings on Commercial Road and Old Christchurch Road until 1 January. And, thanks to Town Centre BID funding, traditional Christmas lights are lighting up Commercial Road, Poole Hill, Westover Road, the Lansdowne and Old Christchurch Road, including Beale Place until the New Year.
