Around 60,000 people are expected to visit this year’s Bournemouth Food & Drink Festival, which takes place from 17–26 June in Bournemouth Square.
The festival will see 10 days of big name chefs, great music and some of the most exciting food on the planet and the fun has already started. Today (17 June) sees the Chef’s Demo Kitchen where you can enjoy free cooking master classes until 4pm.
There’s also a street Food Market running throughout the festival selling everything from wood fired pizza, to Thai noodles, Spanish paella and Italian ice cream. You can even sample them with the new festival plates – smaller portions from the traders’ menus priced between £1–£3 to allow you to graze your way around their stalls.
If you like home grown food, a Farmers and Producers Market will also be there until 19 June.
A People’s Kitchen on Saturday with quick-fire cooking rounds and Kid’s Kitchen that coincides with Father’s Day on Sunday will also take place. Children are being invited to bring their dads down at 11am and enjoy a free cooking session led by Hilton Bournemouth executive chef, Matt Budden.
After lunch he will be hosting the Bournemouth Under 9s rugby team and their dads to make Scotch eggs with local eggs and sausage meat – and there may even be an appearance by some of the Bournemouth Rugby first team.
As well as food and drink, there’s a packed music programme featuring everything from country to soul, rock to rockabilly.
Bournemouth-based Alice and the Hounds will be rocking tunes from The Doobie Brothers to Bruno Mars and The Killers and outlandish rockers The Saints of Sin will be performing an exclusive acoustic set.
Also taking to the main stage will be the award-winning Elvis tribute Garry J Foley, plus Ruby & The Roughcuts, The Royal Ts, Funky Little Choir, Bournemouth University Big Band and the international performer Antony ‘Frank Sinatra’ Adams.
Festival Founder, Patrick Marmion, said: “This is the sixth annual Food & Drink Festival and it gets bigger and better every year.
“We have a host of free events, nightly gigs and some of the best food you’ve ever tasted. Bring your workmates, your family and your friends. Just make sure you come hungry!”
