Bournemouth Freemasons make huge charity donation
Nearly £100,000 has been donated to local charities and good causes by the Freemasons in Bournemouth.
Freemasons in Bournemouth presented cheques worth almost £100,000 to local charities and good causes recently.
Every year, the lodges come together to give the donations and listen to the recipients explain what they do in the community.
Bournemouth Town Mayor, Cllr Jackie Edwards, attended and received a cheque for her charity, the Bournemouth Natural Sciences Society.
The Beach Appeal at Bournemouth Hospital received more than £12,000. Other recipients included Elsie’s Rose, MacMillan Caring Locally, Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide, Edward Ellis Foundation, CJD Support Network and We Are Human.
Chris Lockwood, head of the Freemasons in Bournemouth and the New Forest, said: “Once again, it was humbling to listen to what the charities and good causes do in our communities.
“There are so many people doing wonderful things, and it is a privilege to support them and do as much as we can to help, not only by raising money but by giving time.
“We donated to almost 30 charities and good causes, and we will continue to support them as best we can.
“Our lodges raise the money from their own members and donate to causes close to their hearts.
“This is on top of the money they donate to the national Masonic charity – the MCF – which gives grants and also sends money around the world for disaster relief.
“We are grateful to the mayor for attending and addressing the room at the Masonic centre in Knole Road, Bournemouth.”
The final total donated was £98,220.78.
