Bournemouth Guitar Orchestra announces support for Coda Music Trust
The Bournemouth Guitar Orchestra, a creative community project, has pledged support for Coda Music Trust by donating its fees to the local music charity.
The Guitar Orchestra, run by guitarist Chris Woods, meets weekly every Tuesday at The Blue Boar in Poole and monthly every first Monday of the month at Absolute Music. The relaxed sessions blend inspirational workshops on technique and approaches to playing, with rehearsing a range of pieces from across all genres of music.
Chris Woods explained, “We are really delighted to support Coda Music Trust. I have been aware of the charity for some time now and we wanted to show our support for the fantastic work they do in the community. Coda delivers really innovative musical education and music therapy to people of all ages across the region, so it is great that we can feel we are contributing towards that. Whenever we play a paid gig as the Bournemouth Guitar Orchestra, we will be donating our fees to Coda in recognition of their great work.”
“We are absolutely delighted that the Bournemouth Guitar Orchestra is supporting us,” responded Phil Hallett, CEO of Coda Music Trust. “Chris is a great advocate for our work and it is fantastic that a musical community has chosen to contribute in this way.”
Coda Music Trust is an award-winning and innovative local charity, which uses music as a tool for personal and social change. Believing in the power of music to transform lives, Coda offers help and support through participation, learning and therapy.
The charity devises and delivers music projects with schools and communities across Dorset, Hampshire and the New Forest. This outreach programme is created in response to local need, often tackling issues of social deprivation or crime, isolation, ill-health or disability.
Coda reaches approximately 800 people each week at its music centre and through outreach programmes, music therapy and work in the community, improving wellbeing across a variety of settings.
The Bournemouth Guitar Orchestra is currently recruiting guitarists (age 18+) from all styles and genres for both the weekly and monthly sessions. All types of guitar are welcome and absolutely any ability is welcome for the weekly sessions, with a basic ability recommended for the monthly session.
