Over 500 patients at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital each year are given essential clothes to go home from hospital in by Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Appeal Shop.
The Clothes for Patients Appeal has been launched asking for donations of clean jogging pants, t-shirts, new underwear (pants male and female all sizes), socks and disposable slippers due to low stock levels of usable items.
For many people, a visit to hospital, especially the emergency department, is an unexpected trip so they don’t have time to pack a bag. The majority of patients have someone to bring more clothes in for them but there are lots which have no one to call.
These patients may have had items of clothing cut off or have had an unplanned admission amongst other reasons. If they haven’t got someone who can bring some of their own clothes in for them, hospital staff visit the appeal shop to get the necessary items.
Debbie Anderson, head of fundraising at Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “As well as providing clothing for some patients, the appeal shop raises thousands of pounds each year by selling various donated items in the shop in the main atrium at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
“The main items of clean jogging pants, t-shirts, new underwear (pants male and female all sizes), socks and disposable slippers are urgently needed but we always need new stock of other items for the shelves to keep customers interested and coming back . We hope the public get behind our Clothes for Patients Appeal and look forward to the donations flooding in.”
If you can support the appeal or would like to donate any other items which can be sold, please bring them into the charity appeal shop in the main atrium between the hours of 10am and 2.30pm or the charity office between 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. To arrange drop off outside of these hours, please call 01202 704060.
