Bournemouth man jailed for drug dealing offences in Poole
A man found in possession of more than 170 wraps of class A drugs when his car was stopped in Poole has been jailed for two years and two months.
Marcus Daniel Straker, aged 37 and of Birch Drive in Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on 31 August after pleading guilty to two offences of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
An officer on patrol witnessed a suspected drug deal in a car park in Ashley Road in Poole on 6 July.
A woman and two men were seen to approach a man in a blue Citroen C3 and when the officer approached the car drove away at speed.
Details of the vehicle were relayed to other officers and police located the vehicle in stationary traffic on Poole Road.
As the officer pulled up alongside the vehicle he saw the driver duck his head down toward his feet.
The officer suspected he was hiding something and asked the man to get out of the vehicle.
A search of the car uncovered more than £160 in cash, three mobile phones and a bag containing a number of wraps of what was believed to be class A drugs.
Straker was arrested and the wraps were analysed. There were found to be a total of 173 wraps – 90 wraps containing a brown powder that tested positive for heroin and 83 wraps containing a white powder that tested positive for cocaine.
On one of the phones a number of messages were found that suggested an involvement in the supply of drugs.
Poole Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Edwards said: “The supply of drugs, drug taking and associated crimes have a detrimental impact on the community at a variety of levels and we will do all we can to bring those involved to justice.
“I hope the sentence imposed demonstrates that these kind of offences will not be tolerated and I would ask that anyone who has concerns about drug dealing or drug use in their community to contact Dorset Police so we can take action.”
