Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Bournemouth are appealing for the public’s help to trace a car – with a man being arrested.
At 3.26pm yesterday, (25 March), police discovered the body of a woman aged in her early 40s in a flat in Avon Close in the Springbourne area after concerns were raised that she had not arrived at work as expected.
The circumstances of her death are suspicious and a murder investigation, led by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, is underway.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. Formal identification has not yet taken place.
At 10.15pm last night a 52-year-old man, who was known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Mark Samuel says police are still building a picture of exactly what happened yesterday morning. “If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious in the Avon Close area of Bournemouth or has any other information that could be useful, I would urge them to please get in touch.
“We urgently need to trace a Peugeot 308 dark grey estate hire car with the registration HN14 HWC which we believe travelled in the Dorset and Hampshire areas and may be of significant interest to our investigation.
“This vehicle has damage above the wheel arch on the rear off-side following a previous accident and I am releasing a photo of this damage in the hope that it might jog someone’s memory.
“I am keen to hear from anyone who saw this vehicle being driven in Dorset or Hampshire between 4pm on Tuesday 24 March and 10pm on Wednesday 25 March.
“Did you see it being driven during this time or have you spotted it parked up anywhere? If so, please call Dorset Police urgently.”
A cordon has been put in place at the address in Avon Close and is expected to remain in place for some time while crime scene investigators carry out a thorough examination of the scene.
Officers are also carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.
A post mortem examination began this morning and the cause of death is not known at this time.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the Peugeot car or the investigation is asked to call Dorset Police on 101 quoting Operation Inlet or incident number 25:160.
