Bournemouth & Poole Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2022 launch
The Bournemouth & Poole Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride will take place in May, and there is a launch event on Sunday 2 April.
The Bournemouth & Poole Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is part of a larger event across the world, which aims to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men’s mental health on behalf of its charity partner, Movember.
During the event, Distinguished Gentlemen in over 900 cities across 110 countries ride their classic and vintage style motorcycles in dapper and distinguished style. This year, it will take place on 22 May. The local ride is the largest in the UK outside of London.
The launch event will take place on Sunday 3 April, 1pm-4pm at the Brewhouse & Kitchen in Southbourne, and everyone, biker or not, is welcome to go along and find out more.
Globally, one man commits suicide every minute, and three out of four suicides in the UK involve men. The suicide rate in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is 30 per cent above the national average in England.
In the UK, one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Currently, the NHS estimates that there are 14,000 men undiagnosed due to the pandemic.
The ride aims to get men talking about these issues, recognising that many men like to talk about anything but their health. It is funded by business sponsors and supported by volunteers so all money raised goes directly to the cause. In 2021, despite the pandemic, it raised £32,000.
Anyone wishing to take part or help out in any way is invited to the ride launch.
