Bournemouth students to open their GCSE results
More than 4,000 students in the BCP area will receive their results today. Nationally, the pass rate on grades has fallen to 67.4 per cent.
It’s results day in the UK today. Teenagers across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) will receive their GCSE and Key Stage 4 results after years of hard work.
More than 4,000 Year 11 pupils in BCP secondary schools will discover the outcome of their studies. They’ll also be planning their next steps, whether that’s staying in education, starting an apprenticeship or joining a training programme.
Cllrr Richard Burton, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for Children, Young People, Education and Skills, said: “Today’s results are the well-earned reward for years of hard work, commitment and resilience and our Year 11 pupils should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.”
Cathi Hadley, corporate director for Children’s Services at BCP Council, added: “Every one of our pupils across BCP has done so well to reach this point and we wish them every success as they take their next steps.
“I would also like to express our thanks to all the teachers, school staff, parents and carers who have encouraged and supported our young people through their educational journey.”
Nationally, the GCSE pass rate has fallen slightly. A total of 67.4 per cent of all grades in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are 4/C and above, down from 67.6 per cent last year. According to the BBC, this is the second year grades have returned to their pre-pandemic standards, after grades rose sharply in 2020/21 during Covid and exams were replaced with teacher assessments.
For students in the BCP area who are still exploring their options, support and guidance is available to help every young person make informed decisions about their future. BCP Council advises students to speak to their school’s heads of year, tutors and careers advisers for help.
