Bournemouth teacher nominated for national teaching competition
A dedicated teacher from King's Park Academy has been nominated for a national Teacher of The Year competition.

The hard work, care and dedication of a teacher from Bournemouth is being recognised at the national Teacher of The Year competition after she was nominated by a student in her reception class.
Mrs Richard, who teaches at King’s Park Academy, was nominated for the award by parent Ernett Audrey Sauti and her son Don.
Writing in her nomination, Ernett said: “Mrs. Richards is an outstanding teacher who creates meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for her students. From leading Welly Walks through the local woods to organising trips to the post office, she ensures that children connect classroom learning with the wider world.”
According to Ernett, Mrs Richards commitment goes beyond academics as she nurtures not only the intellectual growth of her pupils but also their social and emotional wellbeing.
She said: “She came to visit us at home to learn more about my son. He has severe food allergies, delayed speech, and was behind developmentally. I was worried, but she reassured me, saying, ‘Bring him over and we’ll see how he goes.’ That personal attention made all the difference.”
Don initially struggled socially and emotionally, but through thoughtful planning and inclusive activities, Mrs Richards helped him settle in.
Ernett recalled: “At the beginning, he faced some unkindness and he came home crying. My heart broke. I told the school and Mrs Richards.”
Within weeks, everything changed.
“My son started saying his friends were kind. It was all sorted so quickly. I was so relieved.”
Ernett added that Mrs Richards’ personal approach sets her apart.
“With so many kids in the class, it’s amazing how she makes each one feel seen and special.”
Organised by the company Collection Pot, the Teacher of The Year competition 2025 aims to celebrate the exceptional dedication of teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, and headteachers in schools across the nation.
Nominations are open until 22 June and the winner will be announced on 4 July.
